Illocutionary Speech Acts on Judges’ Comments on America's Next Top Model and Australia's Next Top Model

This research discusses the speech acts carried out by model competition judges in American and Australian TV series. A detailed analysis between American and Australian cultures is presented to support the research findings. The data was then analyzed and broken down based on Searle's (1979) theory of illocutionary action speech using the qualitative description method. The main types in America's Next Top Model were assertive and declarative (33.33%), while the expressive function turned out to be the most dominant in Australia.References
